Several resort cities along the Gulf coast have managed to avoid seeing damage so far from the massive oil spill.

But many people say they’re taking precautions when planning their vacations.

Florida’s Restaurant and Lodging Association says hotel bookings in Florida’s panhandle are down 30 percent from last year.

More and more residents are staying closer to home because of the economy and the spill.

“Had I made plans to go to a coastal region where I didn’t have family and lets face it coastal amenities are very expensive as far as accommodations go. I think that might possibly have affected our plans had it been an area that had been unfortunately affected by the spill,” said Tallahassee resident, Beverly Rich.

Many Florida hotels are offering discounts and an oil-free guarantee.. to try to attract visitors.
