The dusky track of the Central Middle School in Plymouth saw Jessica Dow running in the flip- flops with her strapless bridal gown pulled up from the bottom.

Dow was followed by her just married husband, Brian who was also dressed in his wedding tuxedo. The wedding party and all guests followed the bride and the groom on this very hot and humid afternoon. The event took place just after a short time after the Dows took their vows at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum at the University of Michigan.

The event was the lap organized by the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life in the honor of Shelly, mother of Jessica Dow who survived an eight year ovarian cancer and lives in Plymouth.

At the Fund raising event at the same school where Dow who’s now 24 ran the same tracks as a middle schooler said, “I wanted to come and be a part of the relay”.

Her mom attended the entire event, but left just after the lap, as it was an emotional moment for her when the relay participants cheered and applauded for her newlywed daughter and son-in-law.

“This was more emotional than the wedding ceremony,” said Bride’s Aunt, Judy Wardlo of Fenton.

Pete Kurzyniec, 46, of Canton, another cancer survivor living at Plymouth, thought that the way the newlyweds’ stopped was pretty cool.

Even the organizers were very happy and thrilled to see the wedding couple and the wedding color which was purple. And the color is not only the bride’s favorite color but it was also the relay color.

The Plymouth Relay for Life was one of the 54 in metro Detroit in the months of May and June. Approximately $54,000 has been raised from the event as of Saturday out of which $450 came from the Dows.

The event Chairwoman, Laura Compton said, “it was meaningful for the Dows to share their wedding day with the event”.

“It makes the day memorable,” Compton added.
